Series Preview: Windigo ready to host weekend series against Kenai River

The Wisconsin Windigo are set to host their second series of the 2025-26 season as the Kenai River Brown Bears make the 3,637-mile trip down from Alaska. While the majority of Windigo series this season will take place on Fridays & Saturdays, this series will be on Saturday, Sept. 20 and Sunday, Sept. 21.

Last weekend, the Windigo opened their 2025-26 campaign by splitting the weekend series with Janesville. After losing to the Jets on opening night 4-1, the Windigo bounced back for a 3-2 win on Saturday. The team exploded for three goals across 121 seconds on tallies scored by second-year defenseman Declan Burns, rookie forward Joe Erickson, and second-year winger Beau Kralovec.

After the weekend series, the Windigo are led in points by rookie center AJ Bongiorno, who assisted two goals Saturday. Eight players currently have one point, including second-year players Riley Joslin and Alexios Georgaklis. For goalies, Max Kogler leads the team with 30 saves and Casimir Weckstrom has 24 stops. 

During Kenai River’s opening weekend, the Brown Bears split results with the Chippewa Steel. Kenai River won their opening game 7-5 before being shutout 4-0 on Saturday. The Brown Bears are currently led in goals by forward David Greene, who scored two in Friday’s 7-5 win.

In the NAHL Midwest Division Standings, the Windigo and Brown Bears are in a four-way tie for second place with Chippewa and Janesville. The Minnesota Wilderness sit atop the division at 2-0-0.

Ahead of Saturday’s opening matchup of the series, the Windigo currently lead the all-time series with Kenai River 14-7. Last season, Wisconsin pulled away in the matchup as they won all five games against the Brown Bears. The Windigo are also outscoring Kenai River all-time 89-51.
