GAMEDAY PREVIEW: Windigo set to host Regular Season Opener against Janesville

Sep 12, 2025

Just over three months ago, the Wisconsin Windigo announced its move from Eagle River to Brookfield, WI, with many fans eagerly awaiting the team’s next chapter. That next chapter has finally arrived.

On Friday, September 12, the Windigo will host the Janesville Jets to open their regular season campaign. Friday night’s contest will be the first-ever NAHL regular season game hosted at The Ponds of Brookfield. Puck drop is set for 7:05 PM.

With the Windigo remaining in the Midwest Division for the 2025-26 season, they will continue their in-state rivalry with the Jets from the past few years. Between the Windigo and Jets, Wisconsin leads the all-time series 23-8 and took the regular season series 6-2 one year ago.

The Windigo enter Friday night’s game fresh off two preseason wins against the Chippewa Steel. Wisconsin won its first game 5-2 on Aug. 30. En route to the victory, returning forward Ronnie Hill scored two goals, including the first NAHL goal scored at The Ponds. Windigo rookie goaltender Casimir Weckstrom kept the Steel off the scoreboard in all 30 minutes he played.

In the team’s second exhibition, the Windigo traveled to Chippewa Area Ice Arena on Aug. 31 and left with a 3-2 win. Rookie center Brayden Severin tallied two points, including the game-winning goal with less than one minute to play in the second period. Wisconsin-native Gabriel Braun tallied the first goal of the game for the Windigo.

Meanwhile, the Jets enter Friday night’s contest after facing off with the Green Bay Gamblers in a preseason scrimmage on Sept. 8. They also played an exhibition against the Springfield Jr. Blues on Sept. 6.

Tickets for Friday night’s game can be purchased on the Windigo team website. If you can’t make it to the game, you can tune into Windigo broadcasts all season long on NATV. Visit nahltv.com for more details.
