Magicians Home Opener VS Kenai River Feautres PWHPA Exhibition Game

Sep 23, 2019

The Minnesota Magicians will be hosting their home opener this Friday, September 27th at 7:15pm against the Kenai River Brown Bears. Although the puck drop for the matchup between the Magicians and Kenai River Brown Bears is highly anticipated, another great game of hockey will be played on Friday night at the Richfield Ice Arena. The Professional Womens’ Hockey Players Association team and the Minnesota Magicians U18 boys team will play an exhibition game at 5pm prior to the Magicians NAHL game. The PWHPA team features Minnesotan Olympians Hannah Brandt, Lee Stecklein and Dani Cameranesi and also carries many other professional womens’ hockey players. The PWHPA and its members aim to create a single, viable professional womens’ hockey league in North America that showcases the most talented womens’ hockey players in the world. In doing so they are traveling across North America and playing in showcases and exhibition games to broadcast their mission statement and grow womens’ hockey at every level. They want to spread awareness on making hockey more accessible and inclusive for all women who would like to play regardless of age or level. The PWHPA’s team that will be arriving in Richfield, Minnesota on Friday evening is packed with skill and will be fun to watch play against the U18 boys Magic team. PWHPA team members will be conducting a meet and greet and signing autographs after the game in the lobby of the ice arena before the NAHL game at 7:15.

After the PWHPA game, the Magicians will be hosting the Kenai River Brown Bears for their home opening series beginning Friday night at 7:15 and again on Saturday night at 7:05. The Brown Bears failed to make the playoffs last season, finishing 23-31-6, but are off to a hot start after claiming 6 of 8 possible points in their NAHL Showcase play, placing them 2nd in the Midwest Division. The Magicians currently sit fifth in the Midwest Division after going 1-1-2 in the showcase, but the season is early and coaches AJ Bucchino and Gaven Bickford believe in and are optimistic about the talent they have wearing the Magi jerseys this season.
