Magicians Make Springfield Sing the Blues

Springfield, IL- The Minnesota Magicians swept a three game series vs. the Springfield Jr. Blues, holding their position as first in the division.

On Thursday the Magi started off the weekend with 5-1 win, with goal tender Jack Robbel being credited with 40 blocked shots. Alternate Captain Cam Buhl (South St. Paul, MN) scored first, assisted by Andrew Kruse (Delano, MN) and John Keranen (Delano, MN). High school senior Jackson Jutting (Prior Lake, MN) added one with an assist of Carter Breitenfeldt (Plymouth, MN) to send the Magi into the second with a 2-0 lead.

Chris Konin (Eden Prairie, MN) struck on the power play, with assists going to Jackson Nauss (Wayzata, MN) and Dawson Klein (Lakeville, MN). Matt Stanton (Stillwater, MN) tallied next, increasing the Magicians lead to 4-0, with assists being credited to Cam Buhl and Mo Wirth (Fuerth, Germany). Moorhead’s Henkemeyer-Howe scored on the power play assisted by Nick Lanigan (Duluth, MN) and Colin West (Plymouth, MI).

Springfield’s lone goal was scored on the power play by Spencer DenBeste.

The Magicians began Friday’s game with an explosive start, scoring five goals within the first two periods. Chris Konin but the Magi on the board first, assisted by Carter Breitenfeldt and Jackson Jutting. Cam Buhl scored next for the Magi, with John Keranen and Dawson Klein assisting. The last goal of the first period was scored by Tina Passarelli, with defensemen Mo Wirth and Andrew Kruse earning assists.

Andrew Kruse added the fourth Magi goal, with assists going to Carter Breitenfeldt and Chris Konin. Konin went on to add his second goal of the night, assisted by Carter Breitenfeldt and Jackson Jutting, bringing the Magicians to their final score of 5-1. Scoring for Springfield was Brandon Puricelli.

Springfield changed the pace on Saturday night, pushing the Magicians into overtime. Carter Wagner (Lino Lakes, MN) opened up scoring for the Magi, assisted by Logan Severson (Lakeville, MN). Scoring went back and forth between the two teams, with Matt Stanton scoring two goals, assisted by Keranen and Buhl, then Kruse and Buhl respectively. Mo Wirth scored the fourth Magi goal, assisted by Buhl. The Blues and the Magicians headed into overtime with the score locked at 4-4. Jackson Nauss scored with assists by Keranen and Kruse to earn the Magi their third win in a row, and a weekend sweep.

The Magicians head to Alaska to take on the Fairbanks Ice Dogs and the Kenai River Brown Bears, but return to Richfield on November 16-17 to play the Janesville Jets.
