Apr 10, 2017

The Minnesota Magicians (31-22-7) wrapped up the regular season with a 3-1 victory on the road vs. the Janesville Jets (42-13-5) on Sunday, earning their franchise-record 31st win of the season. Round One of the playoffs begin this weekend at Richfield Ice Arena as the Magicians will host the Fairbanks Ice Dogs (33-24-3) for the first two games of the best-of-five-series.

In the regular season finale, the Magicians played a Sunday matinee vs. the Midwest Division Champion Janesville Jets. The Magicians got the first goal of the game as Tanner Tweten (Assists: Tommy Altounian, Davis Kirkendall) scored his 14th of the season to make it 1-0. A short time later, Brendan Skarda (Andrew Kangas, Bryce DeFazio) made it 2-0 Magicians heading into the first intermission. The Jets cut the lead to 2-1 in the second period, but forward Mitch Machlitt (Tweten) scored early in the third period to put the Magicians up by two once again. Janesville would be unable to score again and the Magicians put a bow on a record setting regular season with their 31st win. Goaltender Jake Acton earned with victory in net with a 41 save performance.

In addition to the team setting the franchise wins record, Magicians forward Mitch Slattery set the individual single-season high water mark of 59 points (20 goals, 39 assists), a record which was previously held by Sam Becker who had 48 points in the 2014-15 season. Becker is currently a sophomore playing for the University of Maine.
