Magicians Split Home Opener Series

Oct 1, 2018

Richfield, Minnesota- The Minnesota Magicians opened up their season at home this past weekend, ending with a series split with the Fairbanks Ice Dogs.

On Friday night the Magicians battled through an onslaught of shots, with rookie goaltender Ethan Haider (Maple Grove, MN)  blocking 27 of the thirty shots against him. Despite the Magi putting up 25 shots against Fairbanks goaltender Nate Reid, they were unable to get on the board, resulting in a 0-3 loss.

However, the Magicians weren’t down for the count, and Alternate Captain Cameron Buhl (South St. Paul, MN) struck first for the Magi, after the Ice Dogs received a penalty for slashing. Buhl’s power play goal, assisted by Carter Breitenfeldt (Plymouth, MN) and Moritz Wirth (Fuerth, Germany) marked his 25th goal as a Magician, and ties him with Brady Heppener for all-time goal scorer. Buhl has played for the Magicians since the 2016-2017 season, and has tallied 62 points for the Magicians.

Chris Konin (Eden Prairie, MN) netted his first of the season, with assists from Matt Stanton (Stillwater, MN) and Colin Stein (Pewaukee, WI). The Ice Dogs found the net in the second, with a goal by Grant Ledford. Fairbanks struck again in the third, following a hooking penalty from Jackson Nauss (Wayzata, MN), tying the game at 2-2. Nauss came back to score the game winning goal, with assists from Christian Dahl (St. Peters, MO) and Dawson Klein (Lakeville, MN), ending the weekend with a 3-2 win for the Magicians.

The Magicians will play at home next against the Minnesota Wilderness on Saturday, October 6th, at 7:05pm. To stay up to date with the latest Magicians news, make sure to follow the Magicians on Facebook, Instagram (@minnesotamagicians) and on Twitter (@MNMagiciansNAHL).
