Magicians Split in Janesville

Oct 24, 2016

The Minnesota Magicians played their first true road series of the season last weekend against the Janesville Jets. The Magicians entered the weekend one point behind the first place Jets in the standings and they remain one point out of the division lead after a win and loss in regulation.

On Friday night the Jets had the upper hand, scoring three goals in the first period and skating to an eventual 4-1 win over the Magicians. Tanner Tweten scored the only goal for the Magicians in the game with assists going to Brendan Skarda and Nathan Nelsen.

On Saturday night, the game was much closer from the outset. Janesville hit the back of the net first to take an early lead, but Minnetonka native Pieter von Steinbergs tied the game for the Magicians on a goal assisted by Tanner Tweten and fellow Minnetonka High School alum Brendan Skarda. The Magicians added two more goals in the second period, the first from Mitch Slattery (Cam Buhl, Will Hammer) and the next from Cam Buhl (Noah Wilson) to jump to a 3-1 lead. After Janesville made it 3-2 in the third period, the Magicians answered to put the game on ice as Brendan Skarda notched his 6th goal of the season (Nikita Kozyrev, Mitch Slattery) to make it 4-2. Goaltender Ivan Prosuetov made 41 saves in the win for the Magicians.

The Magicians return home on October 28th and 29th for a two game set with the Kenai River Brown Bears from Soldotna, Alaska. The game starts at 7:15 PM on Friday October 28th. On Saturday October 29th, the game starts at 7:00 PM and the Magicians will be giving away candy for early trick-or-treaters.
