Magicians Win One on Road in Springfield

Jan 30, 2017

The Minnesota Magicians (23-13-4) split a series on the road in Illinois over the weekend, falling to the Jr. Blues (18-18-2) on January 27th before winning the rematch on January 28th. The Magicians continue to be one of the league’s best teams and currently sit in 2nd place in the Midwest Division behind the league-leading Janesville Jets.

After being defeated on the road last Friday night, the Magicians bounced back on Saturday night to salvage the weekend. Saturday’s contest started with Springfield scoring the first period’s only tally to make it 1-0 heading into the second. In the second period, the Magicians answered with a goal from Edina native Parker Mismash (Assists: Mitch Slattery, Will Hammer), who was just acquired by the team in a trade with the Bismarck Bobcat. For most of the remainder of the game, the two teams battled in a 1-1 deadlock before Mitch Slattery (Mismash) found the back of the net with just over a minute to play in the final period to give the Magicians a lead. Goaltender Jake Acton did his part the remainder of the way and the Magicians finished the game with a 2-1 victory on the road. Acton improved to 3-0 between the pipes for the Magicians since joining the team as a midseason pickup from the USHL.

The Magicians are on the road once again this weekend, as they head to La Crosse, Wisconsin to face the Coulee Region Chill on Friday & Saturday Feb. 3rd and 4th. They return to home ice on February 17th and 18th in a two-game set with the Fairbanks Ice Dogs. Find tickets and information on the team at www.wisconsinjuniorhockey.com!
