Magicians Wrap Up Preseason, Move onto NAHL Showcase

Sep 16, 2019

The Magicians had a successful weekend as they swept the Austin Bruins in their preseason exhibition series. A 5-2 win Friday night included scoring from all over the Magicians lineup. Scoring from new Magicians was led Sasha Shogren (2G 1A) and also included Josh Bohlin (1G), Johnathon Ziskie (1G), Jimmy Doyle (2A), Luc Laylin (2A), Lucas Kanta (1A), and Brett Oberle (1A). Veterans Jake Hale (1A), Jake Seitz (1G) and Nick Lanigan (1A) also added scoring for the Magi. The Magic secured the sweep Saturday night with a 3-2 victory in a rather rambunctious game as tensions rose as players were fighting for roster spots on both squads. Scoring for the Magicians included 3 great goals from Tino Passarelli, Jake Seitz, and Marko Reifenberger. Coaches AJ Bucchino and Gaven Bickford were very pleased with the players compete level and execution in their first two tests of the season.

Following their preseason series against the Bruins, the Magicians will be back in action this Wednesday, Sept. 18th for the NAHL Showcase at the National Sports Center in Blaine, MN. The NAHL Showcase is a fantastic tournament put on by the league and involves every team playing 4 exhibition games (typically against out-of-division teams) in an effort to provide exposure of NAHL players to scouts at every level including the NHL, NCAA Division I and III, USHL, WHL, OHL and more.

Game 1
Magicians VS. Maryland Black Bears. Wednesday, Sept. 18th 10:30am Schwan Super Rink 2

The Magic kick off their showcase action Wednesday morning at 10:30 AM in a matchup VS the Maryland Black Bears. It will be an interesting matchup for a few of the Magi members as Goalie David Tomeo, and skaters Nick Grimaldi and Sean Henry played games for the Balck Bears last season. The Black Bears completed their first NAHL season in 2018-2019 with a record of 16-37-7 and look to improve on their second season in the league.

Game 2
Magicians VS. Jamestown Rebels. Thursday, Sept. 19th 5:00pm Schwan Super Rink 4

The Second Matchup of the showcase for the Magicians will be against another team from the East Division, the Jamestown Rebels. The Rebels finished second in the East Division last season with an impressive record of 35-17-8, but lost in the division semi-final playoff round against the New Jersey Titans.

Game 3
Magicians VS. Shreveport Mudbugs. Friday, Sept. 20th 10:00am Schwan Super Rink 1

The Magicians third game is versus the Louisiana based Shreveport Mudbugs. The Mudbugs finished third in the South Division in their 2018-2019 season with a record of 28-22-10. The Mudbugs are entering only their 4th season in the NAHL, but aren’t strangers to success as they already hold a Robertson cup title won in their 2017-2018 campaign.

Game 4
Magicians VS. Johnstown Tomahawks. Saturday, Sept. 21st 12:45pm Schwan Super Rink 2

The Final game for the Magi will be against the Johnstown Tomahawks of the East Division. The Tomahawks are coming off of a very successful season as they had the best regular season record in the NAHL (47-9-4) last season, but lost to the Fairbanks Ice Dogs in the best of 3 Robertson Cup Semi-Final round series.
