The Wisconsin Windigo are once again set to play host to their I-43 rivals; the Janesville Jets. The Windigo and Jets are slated to play two games at the Ponds of Brookfield on Friday, Oct. 10 and Saturday, Oct. 11.
In the team’s most recent series, the Windigo fell to the Fairbanks Ice Dogs twice and are looking to turn things around. Wisconsin lost 5-2 in the series opener and 3-0 in their most recent game on Saturday, Oct. 4. Despite the loss, the team received goal contributions from second-year forward Jackson Ernst and third-year NAHL veteran Payton Mithmuangneua, who scored in his team debut.
The Windigo are currently led in points by second-year forward Teddy Richardson and second-year defenseman Declan Burns (5). In net, both Max Kogler and Easton Cody have posted above a .925 save percentage across three outings.
The Janesville Jets are coming off a series where they split wins with the Anchorage Wolverines. The Jets came up short in the first game 7-4 before they responded with a 6-3 win. Janesville is currently led in points by Hans Hedlund with 12 tallies. Goaltender Kaenan Smith has posted a 3-1-0 record with 1.54 GAA.
In the NAHL Midwest Division standings, the 3-5-1 Windigo moved up to fifth place following yesterday’s game between the Anchorage Wolverines and Minnesota Wilderness, where the latter won 9-2. The Jets currently rank second in the division at 5-3-0.
This weekend, the Windigo will be honoring our community’s first responders. Local firefighters will be honored during Friday’s game, and police officers will be honored on Saturday.
Puck drop on Friday, Oct. 10 is set for 5:45 PM central time. Tickets can be purchased on the team’s website. If you can’t make it in person, all Windigo home games can be streamed on NATV. Visit nahltv.com for more details.
