The Wisconsin Windigo are set to hit the road within the Midwest Division for the first time this season. The team’s first stop is set a few exits off I-43 for a two-game showdown with the Janesville Jets at Mercyhealth Arena. Puck drop on Friday, Oct. 17 is set for 7:30 PM Central Time, and the contest on Saturday, Oct. 18 is set for 7:05 PM Central Time.
Despite being over one month into the NAHL regular season, Wisconsin’s upcoming road trip will be the team’s first within the division. The Windigo have traveled just once when the team, along with the rest of the league, attended the NAHL Showcase.
After the Windigo face off with the Jets in Janesville, they will head Northwest to Cloquet, MN for two games with the Minnesota Wilderness on Oct. 24 & 25. The Windigo will wrap up the road trip with a two-game series with the Springfield Jr. Blues on Oct. 31 & Nov. 1.
Both the Windigo and Jets are coming off a two-game set where each side won a game. The Windigo took care of business on Friday with a 3-1 win, where rookie goaltender Casimir Weckstrom made a season-high 47 saves and rookie forward Brendan Finley scored his team-high third goal of the year. Janesville bounced back to win Saturday’s contest 4-1. Despite the loss, second-year Windigo forward Jackson Ernst scores his second goal of the season to cap off a two-point weekend.
The Windigo are currently led in points by second-year center Alexios Georgaklis, who has tallied seven points (two goals, five assists). Second-year defenseman Michael Ryan leads all Windigo defenseman with six points. Wisconsin is led in goals by Finley and second-year winger Ronnie Hill, who each have three twine finders.
In net, all three Windigo goaltenders, Weckstrom, Easton Cody, and Max Kogler have above a .920 save percentage. Kogler leads the bunch with two wins, and Cody has made the most saves with 129 stops.
In the NAHL Midwest Division Standings, the WIndigo currently sit in fifth place with a 4-6-1 record. The Jets are in second place at 6-4-0 overall and trail the division-leading Minnesota Wilderness by nine points.
Puck Drop for Friday’s contest is set for 7:30 PM Central Time from Mercyhealth Arena. If you can’t make it in person, all Windigo road games can be streamed on NATV.
