Jul 15, 2015

The Minnesota Magicians are happy to announce that defenseman Thomas Delaney has committed to play collegiate hockey at the University of Wisconsin-River Falls of the Division III Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC).

Delaney was a member of the inaugural Magicians team, playing in 39 games in 2013-2014 as a rookie in the North American Hockey League (NAHL).  During his first season with the Magicians, he recorded 7 goals and 8 assists from the blue line. Last season despite having his season shortened by a concussion, Delaney provided a veteran presence to the Magicians defensive corps, contributing 4 goals and 5 assists in 37 games. Prior to his junior hockey career, he was a standout on the White Bear Lake High School hockey team of the Minnesota State High School League (MSHSL).

Speaking about Delaney, Magicians Head Coach Tom Upton said, "We are very happy for Thomas and his commitment to UW-River Falls. He was a great leader for us this past season on and off the ice. It was nice to see him develop and grow from the beginning of the season to the end as not only a player but a person as well. We wish him the best of luck as he moves on to play college hockey at one of the top programs in the nation."

Speaking about his time with the Magicians, Delaney said, "I will always be grateful for the experiences I was able to be a part of on and off the ice with the Magicians. I grew as a player and a person during my time in Richfield and being able to help this program grow from its inaugural season in the NAHL to a playoff team is something I will always take pride in. I want to thank all my family and friends for the support they have given me and I want to thank all my coaches and teammates along the way that have helped me get to the next level. I am extremely excited to play for a great hockey program at UW- River Falls. And I will cherish these past two years for the rest of my life."
