Weekend Preview: Home and Home vs. The Austin Bruins

The Magicians return to action this weekend with a home-and-home series with the Austin Bruins. Friday night the teams will play at Richfield Ice Arena and Saturday will be in Austin at Riverside Arena. Last time out against the Bruins, the Magicians loss in a shootout 4-3, after an overtime session that including many chances for both teams. The Magicians are still holding on to the third spot in the Midwest Division with a record of 19-16-5 (43 points) and have a one-point lead over the Springfield Jr. Blues.

About the Bruins:

The Bruins are in second place in the Central Division with a record of 23-12-6 (52 points). The Bruins are 7-2-1 in their last 10 games and have been climbing up the Central Division standings after a slow start to their season.

Bruins To Watch:

#31 Goaltender Alex Schillings – The Magicians are likely to see Schillings for at least one of the games if not both. Schillings was the Central Division Star of the Week last week and is 14-9-4 on the year with a .922 SV% and 2.26 GAA. He recently made his commitment to the Air Force Academy.

#22 Forward Travis Kothenbeutel – Kothenbeutel is committed to Nebraska-Omaha and currently leads the NAHL in points. He has 50 points (18G 32A) and is a huge part of the Bruins offense.

Who’s Hot for the Magic?

Kyler Grundy – The rookie, Kyler Grundy had seven points in his last three games and continues to have a great season for the Magicians. Grundy now has 27 points (11G 16A) on the season and is second on the Magicians in scoring.

Ethan DeStefani – Ethan DeStefani has a six games point streak that he looks to continue this weekend. Two weeks ago, he tallied five points including a three-point night on Saturday night against the Kenai River Brown Bears. DeStefani now has 22 points on the season and leads the Magicians in goals with 12.
