Weekend Preview: Magicians head to Alaska

Last week, the Magicians went 2-0-1 against the Springfield Blues, picking up 5 points and climbing in the standings. Now the boys will travel 3,000 miles north to Alaska! The Magicians will kick-off an eight-game road trip with a weekend series against the Fairbanks Ice Dogs.

About the Ice Dogs:

The Ice Dogs currently sit 2nd in the Midwest Division with a 7-2-0-1 record. Last time out the Ice Dogs beat the Magicians 3-1 at the NAHL Showcase in Blaine, MN earlier this season. The Ice Dogs are coming off a weekend in Wisconsin, where they split with the Janesville Jets.

Ice Dogs to Watch:

Defenseman Nolan Schaeffer – A name that might look familiar to Magician fans. Schaeffer is from Marshall, Minnesota and played with the Magicians in 2014-15. He recently committed to Robert Morris University and has 4 assists in eight games for the Ice Dogs.

Forward Robert Blueger – Blueger is the Ice Dogs leading scorer with 12 points in ten games including four points last weekend against Janesville. He’s from Riga, Latvia and is committed to play at Lake Superior State University.

Who’s Hot for the Magic?

Kyler Grundy – The rookie, Kyler Grundy is tied for the team-lead in points with eight for the Magic. Grundy had four points (1G 3A) last weekend against the Blues.

John Keranen – John Keranen is linemates and tied at the top in points with Grundy. Keranen had three points and scored two big goals from the Magic last weekend including the game-winning goal on Saturday night.

George McBey – The NAHL Midwest Divisional Player of the Week, McBey had two wins,  a .967 SV%, and only allowed two goals against Springfield last weekend.
