Weekend Recap: 3 Nights 3 Games 3 Overtimes

This past weekend the Magicians had three games against Midwest Divisional opponent the Springfield Jr. Blues. Thursday night the Magicians got a late goal in the third period from Ethan DeStefani to force overtime. Then, just 11 seconds into the extra frame, Calvin Dybicz scored to give the Magicians 3-2 victory. Saville picked up the win in net with 31 saves.

On Friday night, the Magicians received goals from Andrew Kruse and Matt Stanton but once went to overtime to decide a winner. This time it was the Jr. Blues scoring 29 seconds into OT to come out on top with a 3-2 victory.

These two times were neck and neck all weekend and Saturday night that continued with the third overtime game in three nights. This time it was John Keranen scoring 2:44 into overtime to give the Magicians the 2-1 victory and more importantly climbing to a tie with Jr. Blues for 3rd place in the Midwest Division. Saville stopped 29 of 30 shots he faced to pick up the win.

3 Stars of the Weekend:

1st Star: Johnny Keranen – 1 Goal (GWG in OT) 2 Assists

In the Magicians win on Thursday night, Keranen picked up two assists. Saturday night he scored the game-winning goal in overtime! Johnny is now tied for 2nd on the team with 29 points (13G 16A). #DelanoTiger

2nd Star: Ethan DeStefani – 1 Goal 2 Assists

DeStefani had a goal and assist on Thursday night, including game time goal late in the third. Ethan also had the assist on Saturday as he setup up the game-winning goal. DeStefani has 24 points on the season including 13 goals, which is tied for the team lead. #MerrimackRecruit

3rd Star: Isaiah Saville – 2-0-1 .939 SV% 1.97 GAA

Saville played all three games in net for the Magicians this weekend. He faced 99 shots, stopping 93 of them and picked up 2 wins. Isaiah now has 17 wins on the year, which is just 3 wins behind Ivan Prosvetov for most all-time as a Magicians goaltender. #FutureUNOMaverick

What’s Next?

The Magicians have on more road game before coming back to Richfield Ice Arena. Next Friday, they will travel to the Green Island Ice Arena to take on the Coulee Region Chill. Saturday night they will face the Austin Bruins on Military Appreciation night! All ex or current Military will receive FREE Admission. #FeelTheMagic
