Weekend Recap: A Split with Coulee Jumps the Magicians into Third Place

The Magicians are getting used to playing extra hockey. This weekend the Magic played two more overtime games against the Coulee Region Chill. Friday night at the Green Island Ice Arena, the Magicians scored four goals (Scheerer, Weiand, Kirkendall, and Stanton) but fell in overtime. Andrew McGlynn scored 1:17 into OT for the Chill to give them the 5-4 victory.

Nothing new on Saturday night, the Magicians found themselves going to overtime for the fifth-straight time. But this time the extra frame did not last long! Arturas Laukaits netted the game-winning goal just 7 seconds into overtime to give the Magicians 3-2 win over the Chill.

With the 3-point weekend, the Magicians take over sole possession of third place in the Midwest Division! The Magi are now 24-19-7 (55 points) with ten games to go in the regular season.

3 Stars of the Weekend:

1st Star: Arturas Laukaitis – 1 goal (GWG in OT) 1 assist

Arturas Laukaitis was the hero on Saturday night with his overtime goal! This weekend he tallied 2 points and was a +3. Laukaitis has 15 points (8G 7A) and leads the team in plus/minus at +12.

2nd Star: Charlie Weiand – 2 Goals

The captain Charlie Weiand scored two goals this weekend giving him seven goals on the year. Weiand has 19 points (7G 12A) and leads all defensemen on the Magicians and is currently on a three-game point streak.

3rd Star: Bram Scheerer – 2 Goals

Bram Scheerer, the Colorado College recruit, started the scoring for the Magicians in both games this weekend. With his two tallies, he has 11 goals on the year, eight of which have been against the Chill.
