Weekend Recap: Goaltending Shines Bright

The Magicians had a three-game weekend, first heading to the Coulee Region on Thursday night and ending with two home games versus the Minnesota Wilderness.

Thursday, the Magicians pulled out a 3-2 shootout victory with Matthew Stanton scoring the lone shootout goal. The Magicians we outshot 41-37 but George McBey was great in net with 39 saves.

Friday night was the Magicians first home game in almost a month. The Wilderness were able to score two third period goals and spoil the Magicians homecoming with a 2-1 loss. The Magic would bounce back on Saturday though. Their offense finally came alive scoring three goals in the second period. Saville was once again great and Magicians took home a 4-1 win.

Winning two of three games this weekend the Magic were able to hold their position at 2nd in the Midwest Division and are just two points behind 1st place.

3 Stars of the Weekend:

1st Star: Isaiah Saville – 1W 67 saves .957 SV% 1.50 GAA

Saville stopped 32 of 34 shots faced on Friday and 35 of 36 shots on Saturday. Saville continues to impress and he put on a show for the home crowd this weekend.

2nd Star: George McBey – 1W 39 saves .951 SV% 2.00 GAA

Both goalies we excellent this weekend including McBey’s 39 saves performance on the road against the Coulee Region on Thursday night. He made eight saves in the overtime period and stopped all three shots he faced in the shootout.

3rd Star: Kyler Grundy – 1 goal 2 assists

Grundy had another 3-point weekend and now has 14 points (6G 8A), which is good for third best on the team.

Honorable Mention: Davis Kirkendall (1G 1A), Carter Breitenfeldt (1G 1A), John Keranen (1G 1A), Matt Stanton (2A), Charlie Weiand (2A)

What’s Next?

Next weekend, the Magicians will once again hit the road and travel to Aberdeen, South Dakota to on the Wings for a two-game set. The Wings are in 1st place in the Central Division with a record of 10-6-2.

The Magic will return home November 25th (Movember Night) against the Springfield Jr. Blues. It will be a game all about the mustache and we will be raising awareness for the Movember Foundation and men’s health!
