Weekend Recap: Magicians Move Into Third Place in the Midwest Division

The Magicians had a three-game week starting at home, Wednesday night against the Coulee Region Chill. The Magic got a big night from Kyler Grundy as he tallied 3 points (1G 2A) including the game-winning goal for a 4-3 victory over the Chill.

Next-up, the Magicians battle the Kenai River Brown Bears on Saturday night at Richfield Ice Arena. The game went back and forth. The Magic scored two goals in the third period to force extra time. It would head to a shootout, where Arturas Laukaitis was a hero with the shootout-game winner!

Sunday afternoon, the Magicians traveled to Austin to face to the Bruins for the first time this season. This game would also head to a shootout but the Magicians ended up on the short end. The Bruins came away with a 4-3 win.

With 5 points on the weekend, the Magician climbed into third place in the Midwest Division. The Magic are now 19-16-5 (43 points), three points ahead of the Springfield Jr. Blues. The Magic will return to action Feb. 9th against the Austin Bruins at Richfield Ice Arena.

3 Stars of the Weekend:

1st Star: Kyler Grundy – 3 goals 4 assists

The rookie, Kyler Grundy had points in all three games this week, including three points Wednesday, three points Saturday, and an assist on Sunday. Grundy now has 27 points (11G 16A) on the season and is second on the Magicians in scoring.

2nd Star: Ethan DeStefani – 2 goals 3 assists

Ethan DeStefani continued his point streak to six games this weekend. He tallied five points on the weekend including a three-point night on Saturday. DeStefani now has 22 points on the season and leads the Magicians in goals with 12.

3rd Star: Cam Buhl – 2 goals 2 assists

Cam Buhl tallied four points this week including a two assists performance on Saturday night. Buhl’s point total climbs to 19 (10G 9A) on the season and is currently tied for second on the team with seven power-play points.
