Weekend Recap: Magicians Playoff Bound!

The Minnesota Magicians have clinched a spot in the 2018 NAHL Robertson Cup Playoffs with a sweep over the Coulee Region Chill this past weekend.

Friday night at home, Magicians defenseman Calvin Dybicz had two goals and an assist as the Magic came from behind to beat the Chill 4-2. Jarrett Lee added a goal and an assist and Carter Wagner scored in his Magician’s debut. Saville picked up the win in net with 26 saves.

Saturday, at Green Island Ice Arena, the Magicians scored three goals in the second period including two from Carter Wagner, and they never looked back. They completed the sweep over the Chill with a 5-1 victory. Chris Konin scored his first career NAHL goal and Saville made 35 saves in the win.

3 Stars of the Weekend:

1st Star: Carter Wagner – 3 goals

After playing in the in the State Tournament at the X last weekend for Centennial High School, Wagner made is debut in the NAHL this weekend. The rookie had no problem adjusting, as he netted three goals for the Magi this weekend including the game-winning goal on Saturday night.

2nd Star: Calvin Dybicz – 2 Goals 2 assists

Dybicz led the way with a 3-point night in Friday’s win and added an assist on Saturday too for a 4-point weekend. Dybicz leads all Magicians defensemen in points with 24 (8G 16A) this season.

3rd Star: Isaiah Saville – 2 wins 61 saves 1.50GAA .953 SV%

The seventeen-year-old continues to be a rock in net for the team. With two more victories this weekend, Saville now has 20 wins on the year an incredible accomplishment for the young rookie. On the year, he has .922 save-percentage and 2.54 goals-against average.

What’s Next?

The Magicians have seven regular-season games left and are trying to improve their playoff seed. Next weekend the Magicians will have a home-and-home series with the Austin Bruins. Friday night will be at Riverside Arena and Saturday the teams will be back at Richfield Ice Arena. Come cheer on the Magic!
