Weekend Recap: Magicians Split with the Bruins

The Magicians weekend consisted of home-and-home series with the Austin Bruins. Friday night, the team travel down to Riverside Arena in Austin and picked up a 3-0 win, in large part due to Conor Klaers in net. Klaers earned his first shutout of the season with a 30-save performance to blank the Bruins. Carter Wagner, Arturas Laukaitis, and Davis Kirkendall, all scored goals in the win.

At home on Saturday, the Magicians were outmatched against the Bruins. Austin forward, Travis Kothenbeutel tallied two goals as the Bruins went on to earn the sweep with a 5-1 victory. Ethan DeStefani scored the lone goal for the Magic.

3 Stars of the Weekend:

1st Star: Conor Klaers – 1 Shutout 54 saves .931 SV%

Klaers had his best game of the year, Friday night against the Bruins. Stopping all 30 shots he faced and recorded his first shutout of the season. Klaers has a 2-2-0 record with a .902 SV% this season for the Magicians.

2nd Star: Davis Kirkendall– 1 goal (100th game)

Kirky hit double digits in the goal column on Friday scoring his 10th of the season. On Saturday night, he played in his 100th game in the NAHL, a great accomplishment for the Magicians’ assistant captain. #GrizzledVet

3rd Star: Dawson Klein – 2 assists

Dawson Klein returned to the lineup this week after missing the last few weeks with a lower-body injury and picked two assists on the weekend. Dawson, a senior in high school, has played 18 games with Magi this season and has tallied four assists.

What’s Next?

The Magicians embark on a road-trip the Springfield for a two-game series against the Blues. Last time in Springfield, the Magicians and Blues played three overtime games, with the Magicians winning two of three. With the Blues one point in front of the Magicians in the Midwest Division standings, this weekend will likely decide the playoffs seeding. Catch all the action on HockeyTV!
