The Wisconsin Windigo are set for their final series of a three-week road trip as they head to Springfield, IL for a two-game tilt with the Jr. Blues. Puck Drop on Friday, Oct. 31 is set for 7:05 PM and the series final kicks off a day later on Saturday, Nov. 1 at 6:05 PM.
Last weekend, the Windigo took care of business against the division-leading Minnesota Wilderness as they swept both meetings to win their second and third consecutive games. In the first matchup on Friday, Oct. 24, Wisconsin won an overtime thriller, taking down the Wilderness 4-3. Second-year Windigo defenseman Michael Ryan scored two goals, including the game-winner. In the second meeting, the Windigo won in regulation 4-2. Rookie left winger Ryan Mottau led the way offensively with two goals.
In their most recent series, the Jr. Blues split two games with the Janesville Jets. Springfield won the first contest 4-2 before losing to the Jets 4-3 one night later. The Jr. Blues’ point leader, Zach Howard, had five points across the two-game series.
For the Windigo, the team is led in points by a pair of second-year forwards, Alexios Georgaklis and Teddy Richardson. Both skaters posted four points last weekend and have 14 points overall. In the crease, Windigo goaltenders Casimir Weckstrom and Easton Cody both picked up wins last weekend. Weckstrom has a 3-3-1 record with a .927 save percentage, while Cody has a 2-3-0 record and a .922 save percentage.
In the NAHL Midwest Division Standings, the Windigo are currently in fourth place with a 7-7-1 record. Springfield has a 5-6-3 record and is in fifth, just one spot behind Wisconsin.
In prior seasons, the Windigo have dominated the all-time series. Through three seasons of competition, the Windigo lead the matchup 19-5 and swept the Jr. Blues a year ago, winning all eight meetings. Wisconsin has outscored Springfield 94-48 across the 24 games.
