Windigo Sign Standout Goaltender

… Canadian Tier-2 Junior A National Champion Max Beckford Signs Tender to Play for the Windigo…

The Wisconsin Windigo, proud members of the North American Hockey League, are pleased to announce the signing of Max Beckford of London, Ontario, Canada, to an NAHL tender to backstop their team commencing the 2022-23 season.

The 6’2”, 198 pound nineteen-year-old goaltender competed in the Alberta Junior Hockey League (AJHL) last season for the Spruce Grove Saints and the Brooks Bandits, playing in a total of 29 games. With Brooks, Max had a 1.90 GAA and a .911 saves percentage, propelling his team to win the Hockey Canada Tier-2 Junior A National championship with Brooks.

“It was a difficult decision to leave the Bandits after winning a national championship there, but I am excited to have the opportunity to play in the NAHL for the Wisconsin Windigo,” Beckford said. “I’ve heard a lot of great things about Eagle River and the passion for hockey in Northern Wisconsin. I toured the Dome last week and can’t wait to play there.” First year Windigo head coach Blake Hietala stated, “I’m thrilled about signing Max Beckford to a tender. Max has proven to be an elite goaltender at the junior level and his experience winning a national championship last season will be huge for us on the ice and in our locker room this season.”

The Windigo open their season versus the Fairbanks Ice Dogs at the Dome in Eagle River, WI, on September 23, 2022. For season tickets, visit www.wisconsinjuniorhockey.com and click on ‘Tickets’.
